Hatching Duckling at the Easter Egg Hunt

This happy little duckling still has an eggshell stuck on its head, a bit like a cracked helmet. Its eyes are wide and sparkly and its beak is open in a big smile. You'll see tufty feathers on the fluffy chest, a small wing tucked in at the side, and big webbed feet planted in the grass. Tall grass blades surround it, with three blooming flowers that have round centers on the left and right, and a decorated Easter egg sits on the ground with zigzag and wavy stripes and a row of small dots. Bold lines and roomy shapes make it a nice choice for preschoolers and early elementary kids. Soft yellow works well on the duckling, orange on the beak and feet, and pinks and purples on the patterned egg. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the duckling's body, head, and wings in golden yellow, leaving the eye whites and the tiny highlights in the eyes white.
- 2Color the top of the eggshell and the small broken piece on the right side in sky blue, then fill the open beak and the webbed feet with tangerine orange.
- 3Fill the open mouth's tongue with rose pink, and color the flower petals and small flower in lavender purple and rose pink.
- 4Paint the Easter egg in a mix of soft yellow, lavender purple, and sky blue stripes, keeping the little dots on the egg white.
- 5Add leaf green and moss green to the grass, leaves, and stems at the bottom, leaving the background and thin flower stems white.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra golden yellow shading under the wings and belly to make the duckling look fluffier.
