A smiling baby dino peeks out over the jagged edge of its cracked eggshell. Two little paws grip the rim, and a curved tail pokes out on the right. The hatchling has big shiny eyes, a small rounded snout with two nostrils, an open happy mouth and a row of soft spikes down its head and back. Large and small circle spots cover the egg, and they're easy for little hands to color in. Tufts of grass and two simple five-petal flowers sit on either side at the bottom. Bold, clean outlines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the page would be nice for a dinosaur party or a spring activity. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the dinosaur's head, body, arms, and tail with light green, leaving the eye whites and the small shine dots white.
- 2Fill the spikes on the head and back, plus the tail tip, with emerald green.
- 3Color the big round spots and the other spots on the egg with lavender purple, leaving the empty egg shell area white.
- 4Fill the flower petals with golden yellow, their centers with bright orange, and the grass and leaves with leaf green.
- 5Add the open mouth in brick red, the tongue in coral pink, and the little claws in cream.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker touch of emerald green or lavender purple along the edges of shapes for a bit of depth.
