Hedgehog Diver Surprised by a Pufferfish, Octonauts

Floating above a round pufferfish, a little hedgehog in a scuba mask and air tank looks just as startled as the fish. Both have wide eyes and small open "o" mouths. The hedgehog has spiky fur and round ears, and it holds its paws close to its chest. The pufferfish has big shiny eyes, little spikes all over, and fins on both sides. Wavy seaweed grows along the left and right edges, small pebbles sit on the sea floor, and bubbles of different sizes rise through the water. Large shapes and clear outlines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids well. For color ideas, a soft yellow or sandy brown pufferfish, a bright blue or red air tank, and pale blue lenses in the mask all work. This free page prints easily, so you may want a few spare copies. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the pufferfish body and spikes in golden yellow, leaving the two big eye whites and the small highlights on the seaweed white.
- 2Color the hedgehog's spiky hair and ears in chocolate brown, then fill the face and paw in soft peach.
- 3Fill the goggle strap and frame in sky blue, and the diving tank and its valves in golden yellow with sky blue bands.
- 4Color the seaweed stalks in forest green and grass green, the arm in lime green, and the bubbles, sea bubbles in pale aqua.
- 5Add charcoal gray to the dark straps, the pebbles and rock in light gray, and the pufferfish fins in tangerine orange.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the brown hair and the seaweed for depth, and finish with a rose pink tint on the hedgehog's ear.
