Horse Taking an Apple Over the Fence

Coloring guide
The heart of this page is a sweet moment: a curious horse leans over a wooden fence to take a whole apple from a child's outstretched hand. The horse has big, shiny eyes with long lashes, tall pointed ears, a wispy forelock and a long flowing mane. The apple keeps its little stem and leaf. Past the fence you'll find a grassy meadow with small daisy-like flowers, tufts of grass and rounded bushes along the horizon. The thick fence posts and rails have wood-grain lines that are fun to fill in, and large open shapes keep things easy for younger kids. Chestnut brown suits the horse, a darker shade the mane, and a shiny red apple will stand out against the green meadow. This free printable is great for animal lovers, farm lessons or a quiet afternoon. If you enjoyed this Apple page, don't miss our For Girls and For Kids coloring pages.

- 1Start with the grass, hills and bushes: fill the field and the small patches of grass in lime green, and the bushes in forest green.
- 2Color the fence posts and rails in warm brown, add caramel brown on the fence panels, and finish the post tops in honey gold.
- 3Fill the horse's face and muzzle in pale cream, its neck and body in caramel brown, and the inner parts of the ears in coral pink. Leave the eye whites white.
- 4Color the mane with butter yellow, then make the apple bright red and its leaves bright green.
- 5Color the hand in light peach and the sleeve in medium blue, keeping the highlights white.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of caramel brown along the horse's neck and warm brown along the fence for a little depth.
