Hot Air Balloon Ride with a Waving Chameleon

A smiling chameleon leans over the edge of a woven hot air balloon basket and waves one hand, its curly spiral tail tucked in beside it. The balloon overhead has a row of hearts, a zigzag triangle band, scalloped trim and lots of little patterns to fill in, and the basket below has draped swags and dangling tassels. Down on the ground you'll see puffy clouds, faraway mountains, a small village with a church steeple, a winding river, and pine trees and leafy bushes along the banks. A bright green or turquoise chameleon with red and pink hearts on the balloon would look cheerful, with soft blues and greens for the landscape. Print this sheet at home for a quiet, creative moment. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big balloon: color the top and middle panels tomato red, orange, and golden yellow in a rainbow pattern, leaving the thin outlines and small white dots between them.
- 2Fill the heart band with pink, then color each heart tomato red, leaving the small white dots between the hearts white.
- 3Color the lower balloon panels with bright blue, sky blue, and light sky blue, and paint the scalloped trim sky blue with one warm gray scallop.
- 4Paint the chameleon with yellow green head, lime green arm, and pale yellow belly, keeping the big eye whites white.
- 5Add the basket cloth in tomato red, then fill the hills and bushes with grass green, leaf green, and lime green, the pine trees with forest green, and the river with sky blue. Leave the clouds and sky white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading in the same color on the trees, bushes, and river edges for extra depth.
