Jungle Chameleon Lizard Catching a Butterfly

Coloring guide
Wide-eyed and clinging to a leafy branch, this chameleon shoots its long tongue toward a smiling butterfly in midair, and the tip just touches the butterfly's body. The chameleon has a spotted pattern along its back, a spiral tail and a bumpy crest on its head. Big split monstera-style leaves, smaller pointed leaves along the vine and open hibiscus-type flowers in the bottom corners fill out the scene. The butterfly has round spots on its wings and curly antennae. Large open shapes mixed with small dots make it nice for kids who like some variety. Bright greens and teals suit the chameleon, and warm orange or purple wings will make the butterfly stand out. Grab this free printable for class time or a rainy day. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big monstera leaves in the top left and right corners, plus the leaves at the bottom, using deep green and medium green.
- 2Color the chameleon's head, body, and legs in bright green, leaving the eye whites and the small dots on its tail white.
- 3Add orange spots on the chameleon's back and amber on the small spots near its tail, then fill the tail curl with olive green and yellow green.
- 4Fill the hibiscus flowers with bright red, and color the stems and branches brown with lime green on the small leaves.
- 5Paint the butterfly wings with sky blue, tangerine, and light yellow, the body with pale yellow and golden yellow, and the tongue tip in pink. Optional: add a slightly darker shade on the edges of the leaves for depth.
