Standing on a little grassy hill, a smiling bear holds the kite string in both paws and looks up at the sky. The diamond-shaped kite floats near the top of the page, with a long tail tied with four small bows. Three puffy clouds drift behind, rounded bushes sit on either side of the hill, and tufts of grass dot the ground. Two flowers with round petals grow in the bottom corners. The bear has round ears, a muzzle, big sparkly eyes and an open happy mouth. Big shapes and clean, bold lines make it easy for preschoolers and early elementary kids who are still building pencil control. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the clouds and sky: color the big cloud and both small clouds light sky blue, leaving the background white.
- 2Fill the teddy bear's head, body, arms, legs, and round ears with caramel brown, keeping the lines crisp.
- 3Color the two bushes on the left and right of the hill in forest green, then add lime green or bright green to the grass tufts if you like.
- 4Color the kite: make the top section red, the right section bright green, and the lower left section bright blue.
- 5Add the bows along the kite tail in red, lime green, bright blue, yellow, and forest green, alternating colors as you go.
- 6Finish with details: fill the muzzle with cream, add soft pink to the inner ears, and leave the eye whites and the small tooth white. Optional: add a little darker brown shading on the lower edges of the bear for depth.
