Ladybug Hitching a Ride on a Dragonfly

Coloring guide
Soaring across the page, a cheerful dragonfly with big round eyes and a wide smile carries a tiny waving ladybug on its back. The ladybug has little antennae, a happy face and a spotted shell, and it holds one arm up in a friendly hello. Four large veined wings stretch out on both sides of the dragonfly, and its long body is split into neat segments that are fun to fill in one at a time. A round sun with short rays and three fluffy outlined clouds share the sky. Wide, simple shapes suit preschoolers and early elementary kids, and the free printable PDF is handy for a rainy afternoon or a classroom activity. Soft turquoise and purple wings look good, and a bright red shell with black spots will make the ladybug stand out. This fits right in with our Dragonfly coloring pages — see also Owl and Shark.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the clouds, both large wings and the upper left wing in pale blue, leaving the background white.
- 2Color the sun and the small ball on the antenna tip in golden yellow.
- 3Fill the dragonfly's head with light blue and the thorax and front legs with sky blue, keeping the big eye whites white.
- 4Color the abdomen segments in sky blue at the top, medium blue in the middle, and deep blue toward the tail tip.
- 5Paint the ladybug's shell in bright red and its head and face in coral, then add charcoal to its dark side and waving hand, leaving the spots white.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading along the edges of the wings and abdomen to make the colors pop.
