Lattice Apple Pie With Apples and a Rolling Pin

Coloring guide
Center stage goes to a freshly baked apple pie, topped with a woven lattice crust and a wavy, crimped edge. Chunks of apple filling show through the gaps between the strips, and the dish underneath has straight vertical ridges. Two big apples sit behind the pie, and each has a stem, a leaf and a shiny highlight on its side. At the lower right, a wooden rolling pin rests on a tablecloth printed with a grid of squares. Wide lattice strips and large apples are simple for small hands, and the checkered cloth is a chance for older kids to try a pattern. Golden brown and orange make a good crust, with one apple red and the other green. The free PDF prints at home for a screen-free activity. This fits right in with our Apple coloring pages — see also Girl Power and Hot Dog.

- 2Fill the pie crust rim and the lattice strips with golden yellow, leaving small gaps where the filling shows through.
- 3Color the pie filling peach orange in the gaps between the lattice strips.
- 4Fill the pie dish with sky blue, including its ribbed sides and bottom edge.
- 5Color the rolling pin barrel and its end peach orange, then color both handles brown.
- 6Color both apples bright red and the right leaf leaf green, leaving the small shine spots and the left leaf white. Optional: add a few darker red strokes on the apples for depth.
