Lattice Crust Pumpkin Pie with Rolling Pin

Here's a freshly baked pie, front and center, with a woven lattice crust and a small pumpkin shape tucked into the middle of the criss-cross strips. The edge is wavy and pinched, and a ridged tin sits underneath. On the left is a whole pumpkin with a curled stem, and a wooden rolling pin lies at an angle in the lower right. Leaves are scattered about, with a maple leaf and an oak leaf at the top and another oak leaf and maple leaf at the bottom. The whole scene sits on a tabletop made of horizontal wooden planks. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the pie tin: color the blue ribbed sides of the pie dish in cornflower blue, leaving the thin white highlights between the ribs.
- 2Fill the lattice crust and the pie edge with pale gold, working over the whole top of the pie.
- 3Color the weaving strips of the lattice in burnt orange, alternating them so the pale gold strips still show between them.
- 4Paint the two pumpkins and the pumpkin on top of the pie in bright orange, then add rust brown to the stems.
- 5Color the rolling pin body in pale gold with rust brown handles, and the top and bottom maple and oak leaves in coral red and golden yellow.
- 6Optional: add a little extra shading with a darker orange on the pumpkin sides and a light amber touch on the lattice edges for depth. Leave the background white.
