At a stone-age washing station, Fred Flintstone has one hand on the faucet and the other holding up a knotted bundle of cloth. Across from him, Wilma lifts a spotted animal-print garment, her swirled hair and chunky bead necklace on display. A rocky basin sits in the middle, filled with little round shapes and topped with a log-style roller. Dino pokes his head up at the bottom, and two small figures peek out from under a big draped blanket at the lower left. Another large cloth hangs over the right side. Wide shapes and clear outlines suit kids who don't mind a busy scene. Orange for Fred's outfit and soft blue for Wilma's hair make a good start. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background shapes: color the stone tub and rock bases in cool gray, and leave the background and the white skirt and suds untouched.
- 2Fill the large blankets next: medium blue for the big blanket at the bottom right, grass green for the baby's blanket at the bottom left, and tomato red for the red cloth in the middle.
- 3Color Fred's orange shirt and Wilma's hot pink spotted dress, then add plum pink to Dino's body and the pink dress at the bottom.
- 4Add skin tones next: light peach for Fred's arms and legs, Wilma's arms and face, Pebbles' face and Dino's head, and light orange for Fred's neck.
- 5Color the yellow rolling pins and the golden yellow laundry items, then add bright blue to Fred's collar and the blue rolling pin.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shade on the folds of the blankets and the stone tub, and finish with black for Fred's hair and the spots on his shirt.
