Leaping Unicorns Kicking Up Their Heels Among Stars
Coloring guide
Mid-gallop, this happy young unicorn bounds through the air with its front legs tucked and back legs kicked up. It has one pointed ear, a big sparkling eye, a smile and a spiral-striped horn. The long wavy mane and full swooshing tail stream out behind in lots of flowing sections, which gives little hands plenty of room for detail. Three puffy clouds and a handful of small stars in different sizes drift around it on a plain white sky. Pastel stripes would look lovely on the mane and tail, with bright yellow or gold for the horn and stars. Crayons suit the big body shapes, and the curly strands are good practice for markers or colored pencils. A nice pick for preschoolers and early elementary unicorn fans. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the two clouds and the mane and tail areas that flow through the sky with a soft pale blue, keeping the clouds light and airy.
- 2Fill the stars and the horn with golden yellow, leaving the small bright spot on the horn tip white if you like a shine.
- 3Work through the mane and tail one strand at a time: rose pink at the top, peach orange just below, then golden yellow, mint green, and sky blue toward the lower strands.
- 4Color the hooves with lavender purple, and add the blue base and pink forelock near the horn for a playful touch.
- 5Leave the body, face, and the eye's white highlight uncolored so the unicorn stands out. Optional: add a light shadow under the belly with a bit of dusty blue for depth.
