Perched on a branch, a cheerful little bird with big sparkly eyes and an open beak looks down into a woven twig nest full of eggs. The biggest egg stands upright at the back with wavy bands, scalloped lines and small flowers, and three smaller speckled eggs rest in front. Apple-style blossoms with leaves and a few closed buds frame the corners, and a thick branch curves beneath the nest. Large shapes and clear outlines are good for preschoolers, and older kids can take their time on the egg patterns. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the bird's head and body golden yellow, and the orange beak, leaving the eye whites and the small bright spots in the eyes white.
- 2Color the wing and tail feathers sky blue, then add the wavy egg bands in hot pink and golden yellow on the big egg, and fill its middle with sky blue.
- 3Color the three eggs at the nest: the left one sky blue, the middle one hot pink, and the right one lavender, leaving the small dots white.
- 4Fill the nest and branches with warm tan for the woven strands and chocolate brown for the darker twigs.
- 5Color the blossom petals light pink, keeping the flower centers white, then color the leaves with leaf green and fresh green.
- 6Optional: add a little darker shading on the nest and under the bird's wing to make the drawing look more dimensional.
