A small pirate ship bobs along on rolling waves, with a skull and crossbones flag flying from the top of its mast. It has two large sails, a curved bow, a railed deck at the back and three round porthole windows on the striped wooden hull. A seagull glides in from the left, and a big round sun with short rays sits in the upper right corner. Thick outlines and roomy shapes make it a good choice for preschoolers and early elementary kids still working on crayon control. Warm cream or pale yellow looks nice on the sails, rich brown on the hull, and a few different blues on the water. Print the free PDF at home for a calm, creative break. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the sun, the round tops of the mast poles and the yellow trim along the sail booms and deck rail with golden yellow.
- 2Fill the ship's hull, mast, railing posts and bow with wood brown, then add caramel tan to the lower hull bands.
- 3Fill the big main sail and the small left sail with cream white, leaving the open space between the sails and the deck white.
- 4Color the waves with ocean blue, and fill the centers of the round portholes with sky blue while keeping their golden rings.
- 5Fill the flag with black and leave the skull and crossbones white, then keep the seagull's body white and just outline it.
- 6Optional: add light shading along the hull edges and the lower sides of the sails to give the ship more depth.
