Louisiana Flag: Mother Pelican and Three Chicks in Nest
Coloring guide
A mother pelican stands in the middle of a rectangular flag with her wings spread wide and her long beak pointing down toward her chest. Three baby chicks sit in a woven nest of twigs below her, their beaks stretched upward. A few small drops appear near the chicks and the mother's chest. Underneath the nest, a curled ribbon banner carries the words UNION JUSTICE CONFIDENCE in outlined letters. The background is plain white, so there is lots of room to color. Try soft browns and grays for the pelican's feathers, warm tan for the nest, and a bright blue field behind everything, which matches the real Louisiana flag. It also works well for a lesson on state symbols, since kids can talk about what the pelican and the motto might stand for. This page is free to print.
