Mango Time: Chhota Bheem and a Monkey Under the Tree
Coloring guide
A little boy with a topknot reaches up with both hands while a cheerful monkey hands a mango down from a branch. The monkey wears a small vest and hangs by one hand, its curly tail twirled beside the trunk. The boy is barefoot on the grass in a simple wrap top, a knotted sash at the waist and short pants. More mangoes hang among big veined leaves, three butterflies flutter nearby, and leafy bushes and grass tufts cover the ground. Young kids can handle the large mango and leaf shapes, and older kids will enjoy the leaf veins and butterfly wings. Yellow and orange mangoes against fresh green leaves make a nice contrast. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the mangoes, the boy's sash, and the held mango in golden yellow, leaving the small highlight spots on the mangoes white.
- 2Color the leaves all over in leaf green, then add a few pale sage leaves near the top left mango and leave the leaf edge highlights white.
- 3Fill the boy's face, shoulders, arm, neck, and feet with peach skin, and his topknot and hair with dark brown.
- 4Color the boy's top burnt orange and his dhoti cream, then add the monkey's warm brown body, tail, and arms with its slate blue vest and peach hands and face.
- 5Use caramel brown for the tree trunk and branches, lime green for the bushes and grass, and rose pink and lilac purple for the butterflies.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the tree trunk and under the mangoes for depth, and keep the eye whites and background white.
