Baking a Strawberry Cake for Mother's Day
Coloring guide
At a kitchen counter, a smiling mom and her little girl stand side by side and place fresh strawberries on a tall layered cake. Mom has her hair in a bun and wears a flower-print apron, and her daughter has a high ponytail and a heart-decorated apron. The cake rests on a pedestal stand, with strawberries and cream swirls between the layers. Nearby are a heart-patterned mixing bowl with a spoon, a bowl of whipped cream, a bowl of strawberries, a rolling pin, eggs in a carton and a checkered cloth. The background holds hanging utensils, jars, potted flowers and a window showing a country house. It's a nice one to print free for Mother's Day, and the many small areas suit careful coloring. Bright red strawberries, pale pink cream and a soft yellow cake give it a bakery-fresh look. This fits right in with our Mother's Day coloring pages — see also Back to School and Summer.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the skin: color the faces, hands and arms of the mother and the girl with a soft peach skin tone, leaving the eye whites bright white.
- 2Color the mother's apron with golden yellow and add the small flower shapes on it in the same color, leaving the flowers white.
- 3Fill the mother's top and sleeves with lavender purple, then give the girl's apron a rose pink color with light pink accents on the mixing bowl.
- 4Color the hair in chestnut brown, the blue bowls and cake stand in pale blue and sky blue, and the window sky in light blue.
- 5Fill the wooden table, rolling pin and egg with warm tan, and color the cake layers with cream while keeping the frosting white.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra shading to the hair and cake layers with a slightly darker shade to give them depth.
