Monkey Handstand on a Patch of Grass

Coloring guide
This cheerful little monkey is balancing upside down on its hands, feet kicking in the air and its long tail curling into a big spiral at the top. It has a wide open smile, big round eyes, a small tuft of hair and round ears with roomy inner circles that are easy to fill in. Two small tufts of grass sit on either side of its hands, and there is no other background, so young kids get lots of open space. Bold, clean outlines suit preschoolers and early elementary kids still building crayon control. Warm brown for the fur and tail, soft tan for the face, belly and ear centers, and bright green grass make a good combo. Print or download it free for the classroom or a rainy afternoon. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the arms, long curly tail, legs, top of the head and outer ears with warm brown, keeping the lines crisp.
- 2Color the face, belly, hands and feet with light peach, leaving the small highlights in the eyes white.
- 3Add blush pink inside both ears so they look soft and rounded.
- 4Fill the open mouth with rose pink to give the smile a happy pop.
- 5Leave the grass and the background white so the monkey stands out.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of brown on the arms and legs to give them a little depth.
