Trunk in Trunk Elephants for Mother's Day
Coloring guide
Through a grassy clearing strolls a big mother elephant, with her baby walking close beside her. The little one's trunk is curled up and wrapped around the tip of mom's trunk. Both have big round eyes, and mom also has long lashes and a gentle smile. Each elephant has a tufted tail, and the mother's floppy ears have nice fold lines to color. In the background stand two tall palm trees and a few bushes, tufts of grass dot the ground, and two small flower clusters sit in the bottom corners. Younger kids will do well with the large open shapes, while the wrinkles, toenails and palm fronds keep older kids busy. Soft blue-gray elephants, green palm leaves and bright pink or yellow petals work well. Save it as a free PDF for an afternoon activity. - 1Fill the big gray areas of both elephants, including the mother's head, body, trunk and legs and the baby's body and legs, with cool gray, leaving the eye whites white.
- 2Color the baby elephant's ears with light pink, and add a rose pink inner ear shade.
- 3Use dark gray for the mother elephant's tail tuft and warm brown for both palm tree trunks.
- 4Paint the palm fronds and bushes with leaf green and pale green, and the grass with bright green, leaving the sky white.
- 5Add cream to the elephants' toenails, then color the flowers with orange, rose pink and bright green stems.
- 6Optional: Add darker gray shading under the elephants' bellies and along the trunk for depth.
