Hen and Four Chicks Mother's Day Coloring Page
Coloring guide
The sweetest part of this page is the chick peeking out from under the wing of a big, smiling mother hen who sits in the middle. Three more fluffy chicks stand in the grass around her, each with round eyes and a tiny beak. A wooden picket fence with small round holes in the posts runs behind them, and a daisy-style flower grows on either side. Tufts of grass fill the bottom. The hen's scalloped comb, the wattle under her beak and the layered feathers on her chest and wing leave lots to color. Golden yellow chicks and a rich reddish-brown hen look good, with bright petals on the daisies. Print or download this free page whenever you need a quick coloring break. Looking for more? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the three chicks and the small chick peeking from the wing with bright yellow, leaving the eye whites and the chicks' feet white.
- 2Fill the hen's body, wing and lower feathers with warm brown, then color the tail feathers dark brown.
- 3Color the neck feathers pale cream, the comb and wattle bright red, and the beak golden orange.
- 4Fill the fence, fence rails and flower stems with light tan, and color the grass and leaves with leaf green, olive green and pale lime green.
- 5Color the flower centers bright yellow and keep the flower petals, the hen's eye whites and the background white; finish the right chick's feet leaf green.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of dark brown along the wing and body edges to give the hen a soft, feathery look.
