Gripping a thick tree branch with a cheerful smile, this big-eyed chameleon has its spiral tail wrapped at the bottom of the page. Circles, stripes and dotted patterns cover its body, so there's lots to color. Overhead, a crescent moon and scattered stars light up the night sky, a sleepy owl with closed eyes sits on a branch in the upper right, and four little smiling fireflies flutter nearby. Farther back you'll see a faint lake with distant hills, leafy branches along the sides and flowers in the lower corners. Kids who enjoy both detail and small characters will like this free printable. Soft greens and teals work well for the patterned skin, and warm yellow on the fireflies makes them look like they glow against the dark. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big moon and the owl: color the crescent moon golden yellow, and fill the owl's face and belly with light beige, leaving the sky white.
- 2Fill the chameleon's head and back with bright green and lime green, keeping the large eye's white and its shiny dot white.
- 3Paint the chameleon's body stripes with sky blue, golden yellow and bright orange, then color the curled tail with bright orange and golden yellow.
- 4Color the leaves and bushes with leaf green and lime green, add chocolate brown to the tree trunks and branches, and fill the river with light aqua.
- 5Finish the mountains with sky blue and the small flower petals with coral pink and orchid purple, leaving the petal centers white. Optional: add a little tan to the owl's wing for extra depth.
