A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with peach on the face, both hands, and the nose, then add rose pink on the cheeks. Leave the eyes, teeth, beard, and hair white.
- 2Fill the jacket, sleeves, and the big red panels with cherry red, and paint the shoulder pads dark red.
- 3Color the trousers, chest area, and the blue belt straps with royal blue, and make the boots charcoal gray.
- 4Paint the hat, hat sides, and the dark band near the boots with near black, then add golden yellow to the feather, the stand base, and the gold cuff bands.
- 5Color the bow, ornaments, and pine branches with cherry red, forest green, and medium gray to match the example, keeping the background white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the edges of the jacket and boots to give the nutcracker more depth.
