Open Pirate Treasure Chest with Crown, Gems and Pearls

The lid of this wooden treasure chest is propped wide open, and it sits on a sandy seabed stuffed with round coins, cut gems and a pointed crown with a small oval jewel in the middle. Two strands of beaded pearls drape over the front, one on each side of the keyhole lock. Plank lines, metal bands and round rivets give you plenty to fill in on the chest itself. Down in the bottom left corner a smiling starfish with dotted arms rests in the sand, and a ridged scallop shell sits in the bottom right. Little pebbles and sand dots are scattered around. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the big wooden planks of the chest body and lid with chocolate brown, leaving small gaps for the plank lines.
- 2Color the chest trim, corner straps, lock plate, and the crown with golden yellow.
- 3Use ruby red for the red gems and the jewel in the middle of the crown, and coral red for the top gem on the chest.
- 4Color the large gems with sky blue and bright blue, and add the green gem with bright green.
- 5Fill the coins with amber and light gold, and color the starfish with orange, leaving the small dots bare.
- 6Leave the pearl necklace cream white. Optional: add darker brown shading along the bottom of the chest and the lid for depth.
