Front and center is a big anchor with a looped ring at the top and a thick twisted rope winding around its shaft. A classic ship's wheel peeks out behind it on the right, with a small round hub, lots of spokes and rounded handles sticking out around the rim. The anchor's curved arms finish in two pointed flukes at the bottom, and the rope loops down toward the lower left. With no background, kids can just focus on the shapes. Bold outlines and fairly large areas suit early elementary kids, and the twists in the rope give older ones a bit more to do. - 1Start with the anchor and color its whole body royal blue, including the shank, the crossbar ends and both flukes at the bottom.
- 2Color the wheel rim and all its handles rust brown, including the small handle at the top and the ones on the right and lower right.
- 3Fill the spokes and hub of the wheel with bright yellow, and leave the gaps between the spokes white.
- 4Use warm gold for the twisted rope, going around the anchor and wrapping over the bottom and top loop.
- 5Keep the ring hole at the top of the anchor and the small gap near the rope white, along with the background.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of royal blue on the anchor and rust brown on the wheel for a shaded, pencil-like look.
