Lace-Up Ice Skating Boots with Floppy Bows and a Pom-Pom

Two lace-up skates sit side by side on a patch of ice, just waiting for color. Each boot has a fluffy cuffed top, crisscross laces through round eyelets, and a big floppy bow at the ankle. The right skate also has a round pom-pom dangling from a loop near the heel, a nice little detail for small hands to fill in. The blades are chunky with open cutouts, and a few wavy lines underneath show the ice. Up in the sky, three snowflakes of different sizes float above and beside the boots. Big shapes and clear outlines work well for preschoolers and early elementary kids. White or light blue could suit the boots, with red for the laces and bows and a fuzzy pink pom-pom. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the big boot sides and backs with bright red, filling the main body of both skates and the center panels.
- 2Add coral orange on the shaded back edges of both boots and the spots just behind the bows for depth.
- 3Fill the collars and tongues of both boots with cream, leaving the laces, bows, toe caps and pom-pom white.
- 4Color the blades and the front tips with light gray, then the heel strips and toe bands with dark gray.
- 5Use pale ice blue for the ice puddle and the gaps inside the blades, and sky blue for the snowflakes.
- 6Optional: add a few light strokes of darker red along the sides of the boots to make them look rounder.
