Three penguins skate in a row across a patch of ice, holding flippers. The biggest one leads with a happy open beak, followed by a medium-sized penguin and a tiny fluffy chick. They each wear a striped scarf and white laced skates. Two big icebergs rise from calm water behind them, with a couple of small floating ice chunks nearby, and four snowflakes of different sizes drift in the sky. A chunky block of ice forms the edge of the skating platform in front. Large shapes and clear outlines are easy on little hands. Give each scarf its own bright color, maybe red, green and purple, so the family stands out against light-blue water and pale blue icebergs. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the icebergs, the flat ice floes and the water with ice blue and pale blue, using the lighter tone for the far icebergs and the sky-blue edges, while leaving the snowflakes and sky white.
- 2Fill the backs, heads and flippers of all three penguins with charcoal gray, keeping the big white bellies, the faces and the eye whites white.
- 3Color the scarves next: red for the big penguin, lime green for the middle penguin, and golden yellow for the baby penguin.
- 4Add the skate boots in royal blue for the big penguin, purple for the middle penguin, and leave the baby penguin's feet soft gray with the body in soft gray as well.
- 5Finish the beaks in orange, the baby penguin head in slate gray, and the cliff faces at the bottom with bright blue.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the penguins' lower edges and under the ice floe to make the drawing look more dimensional.
