Pirate Puppy with a Halloween Candy Bucket and Bats

Dressed up as a pirate, this floppy-eared puppy smiles and lifts a jack-o'-lantern candy bucket by its handle. It wears a big tricorn hat with a skull and crossbones, a bandana tied at the side and an eye patch over one eye. Under the jacket you'll find a striped shirt and a buckled belt. The tongue is out in a happy grin, and the tail curls up behind the pumpkin, which has triangle eyes and a wide toothy smile. Three bats fly in the empty space around the hat. Since there's no background scenery, kids can put all their attention on the costume. Dark purple or black for the hat, a bright orange pumpkin and a red or blue striped shirt would work well. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the dog's head, ears, paws and legs with light peach, and the tail and forehead with caramel brown, leaving the eye whites, skull and crossbones white.
- 2Fill the pumpkin bucket with pumpkin orange and its rim, then color the jolly face in black, keeping the bucket handle white.
- 3Color the pirate hat and the jacket in charcoal gray, add the golden yellow brim trim and the tomato red hat band, plus the tomato red bandana.
- 4Fill the striped shirt with alternating sky blue and ice blue stripes, color the tongue rose pink, and make the eye patch charcoal gray.
- 5Finish the bats in lavender with deep purple faces, color the belt chocolate brown with a golden yellow buckle, and add the crimson red armband. Optional: add a little darker shading under the hat and jacket for depth.
