Puppy Digging Up the Garden Dirt
Coloring guide
In a garden, a happy floppy-eared puppy digs with its front paws deep in a mound of loose soil, tail held high and tongue hanging out in a big smile. Clumps of dirt fly through the air behind it, and small pebbles and grass tufts dot the ground. Behind the puppy stand a wooden picket fence, a watering can with a round-holed spout, and several daisy-style flowers with leafy stems in the corners. At the top right, a smiling butterfly flutters along a dotted flight trail. Fluffy fur and chunky outlines suit kids who like some detail without tiny, tricky spaces. Golden yellow or warm brown works for the puppy, rich brown for the soil, and bright pinks and purples for the flowers. This free printable is a good choice for a craft afternoon at home or in the classroom. Love this Puppies coloring page? You might also enjoy our Duck and Reptiles coloring pages.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the puppy's head, body, and legs in honey gold, leaving the eye whites and the tongue for later.
- 2Color the fence pickets and lower boards in amber, and the watering can in sky blue.
- 3Fill the flower petals in hot pink and lavender purple, and the flower centers in bright yellow, keeping the white flower on the right uncolored.
- 4Color the dirt mounds and the dirt under the puppy's paws in chocolate brown, and the leaves and stems in leaf green and lime green.
- 5Add the puppy's tongue in rose pink and the small leaves on the flowers, then fill the basket in light tan.
- 6Optional: Add a little shadow in darker tan along the puppy's ears and legs for depth, leaving the eye whites and the butterfly's highlights white.
