Sea Lion Family with Mom and Two Pups on the Rocks

Coloring guide
A big sea lion mother sits upright on a rocky shore with a gentle smile and long whiskers. Two little pups snuggle against her front, one resting its head close to the other, and both look up with big round eyes. Her large flippers rest on the stones beside them. Ocean waves roll in behind the family, a small splash pops up near the horizon, and more rocks fill the foreground. Bold, clean outlines and roomy shapes keep this free printable easy for younger kids, and the waves and rocks still give older kids plenty to do. Warm browns and tans work for the sea lions, with cool blues and teals for the water so the family stands out. - tan brown
- warm taupe
- light gray
- sky blue
- cream beige
- charcoal gray
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big rocks at the bottom and sides using warm taupe, leaving the white foam shapes near the water untouched.
- 2Color the mother sea lion's body and front flipper in tan brown, then fill the two pups with light gray.
- 3Paint the sea and waves in sky blue, keeping the white foam crest on the left water white.
- 4Add the cream beige muzzles and cheeks on the mother and both pups, and color the mother's nose charcoal gray.
- 5Optional: Add a little extra tan brown shading along the mother's neck and light gray along the pups' bellies for depth.
- 6Finish with the small splashes at the top right in sky blue and check that the white highlights remain clean.
