Tide Pool Crab with Starfish and Scallop Shell

In the middle of a rippling pool, a smiling crab with big round eyes rests its two chunky claws out in front. Curved ripple lines spread around it, and large smooth rocks sit on either side. Up at the top right, a wavy bit of seaweed rises behind the rocks. Up front you'll spot a dotted starfish, a ridged scallop shell, and a handful of rounded pebbles. The crab's shell is covered in small dots that are satisfying to fill in. The outlines are thick and the spaces fairly large, so younger kids can manage it, while the shells and pebbles give older ones some detail to work on. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by coloring the water around the crab with sky blue, leaving the small ripple lines as they are.
- 2Fill the rocks with stone gray for the cool top and side rocks, and use warm brown for the darker rocks at the edges and bottom.
- 3Color the crab's body, legs, claws and starfish with coral orange, then use peach orange on the lighter underside of the crab.
- 4Add leaf green to the seaweed at the top and lavender purple to the scallop shell, with the shell ridges in the same purple.
- 5Use slate blue gray on the small joints of the crab legs, and keep the eye whites, the white spots on the crab and the starfish dots bright white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the edges of the rocks and the crab's shell to give it more depth.
