Across the sky swoops a cheerful dragonfly with big round eyes, curled antennae and a happy open smile, its four veined wings spread wide and its long striped tail trailing behind. Down below, a small fuzzy bee clings to a lavender stalk with its wings tucked up beside it. Rows of tall lavender blooms and long pointed leaves fill the bottom of the page, and rolling hills and a few puffy clouds sit in the background. The wing veins and flower buds make lots of little sections, so younger kids with chunky crayons and older ones who like detail can both enjoy it. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the clouds and all four dragonfly wings with pale sky blue, keeping the thin wing veins uncolored.
- 2Color the dragonfly's head, face, body and tail with soft blue, and add royal blue to the tail tip, leaving the big eye whites and the small shine spots white.
- 3Paint the hills, meadow and grass blades with lime green, and use dark green and grass green for the bushes and the darker grass blades in front.
- 4Fill the lavender flower spikes with lavender purple, leaving some blooms white for contrast.
- 5Color the bee's head and back with bright yellow, add brown stripes across its body, and fill the lower body with golden orange.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of royal blue or dark green along the edges of the wings and grass to add depth, and leave the dragonfly legs and background white.
