Ladybug Ride with a Smiling Fairy

Perched happily on the back of a giant, round-eyed ladybug, a little fairy with a flower clip in her hair is out for a ride. She has a puffy-sleeved dress with a petal-style skirt and two large, patterned wings. The ladybug grins right at you and has curly antennae, six stubby striped legs and big round spots all over its shell. Three fluffy clouds drift overhead, while the bottom of the page has tufts of grass and several big-petaled flowers, one small one in the middle. Those large spots and wide petals are easy for little hands to fill in, so preschoolers and early elementary kids should enjoy it. Red for the shell and soft purple or pink for the wings is one idea. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big red ladybug shell and the soft yellow head, leaving the two little antenna balls soft yellow too.
- 2Color the fairy's skin peach and her hair chocolate brown, then fill the puffy dress and sleeves with lilac purple and medium purple.
- 3Fill the wings with pale pink in the middle panels and sky blue on the outer edges, and color the clouds sky blue, leaving the top right cloud white.
- 4Color the ladybug's spots, legs, and antennae dark charcoal, and the smile too, while keeping the eye whites white.
- 5Add the flowers: coral pink petals, sunny yellow centers, light green stems, and leaf green leaves, leaving the white flower petals white.
- 6Optional: Add a little extra shading along the edges of the wings, dress, and shell with a slightly darker shade to make the colors pop.
