Hedgehog Hauling a Heart-Shaped Apple Past Mushrooms
Coloring guide
Walking along with a huge apple balanced on its spiky back, a cheerful hedgehog keeps it steady with both paws. The apple has a leaf and a short stem on top, and its rounded, heart-like shape is a fun detail to color. Around the hedgehog are a tall tree trunk on the left, two spotted mushrooms, tufts of grass, puffy cloud-like outlines on the right, and fallen maple and oak leaves scattered across the ground. The big open areas on the apple and the hedgehog's round tummy are easy for little hands, and the jagged spikes give older kids some detail practice. A bright red apple with a green leaf, warm brown spines, and orange and yellow autumn leaves would look lovely. This free printable fits a quiet afternoon at home or in the classroom. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Begin with the hedgehog's belly, legs, paws, hand and ears in cream beige, leaving the eye shines white.
- 2Fill the big apple in cherry red, then color its stem and branch in chestnut brown and its leaves in grass green.
- 3Color the hedgehog's spiky back, upper spines, and lower spines in chestnut brown, keeping the spines separate from the belly.
- 4Color the two mushroom caps in cherry red and their stems in coral pink, leaving the white spots untouched.
- 5Paint the bushes and grass tufts in grass green, then add golden yellow to the large bottom right leaf and small leaves, bright orange to the bottom left leaf, and amber yellow to the small orange leaf.
- 6Finish with rose pink for the open smile and soft peach for the inner ear, leaving the background white. Optional: add light darker strokes of chestnut brown on the spines for depth.
