A hermit crab pokes out of a large spiral shell that has bold stripes and a swirl pattern down its side. It has big round eyes, a small smile, two long antennae, and two chunky claws held out front. Jointed legs rest on the ground, which is a wavy line of sand with small dots and a few round pebbles. Three seashells sit up front: a ridged scallop, a small clam-style shell, and a tiny spiral snail shell. Large shapes and thick outlines help kids who are still building crayon control. Try orange and cream stripes on the big shell and a soft red body for the crab, set against pale yellow sand. It's a good free printable for a beach afternoon or an ocean unit. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big shell: fill the large swirling sections and the top ridge with warm orange, leaving the thin bands for later.
- 2Color the thin stripes and the tip of the shell with butter yellow, so the orange and yellow bands alternate around the shell.
- 3Fill the crab's head, body segments, legs, and both claws with tomato red and coral, keeping the two big eye whites white.
- 4Color the lavender scallop shell, the rose pink small shells, and the pale blue and cream spiral shell on the right.
- 5Shade the sand pebbles with sandy tan and leave the sandy ground white around them.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of tomato red on the claws and orange on the shell to give them a bit more depth.
