Dolphin Ride With a Happy Mermaid
Coloring guide
Here a little mermaid with long wavy hair and a starfish clip sits on the back of a happy dolphin while it leaps out of the waves. She wears a seashell top, and her scaled tail has a big ribbed fin that curls out to the left. The dolphin has a wide open smile, and splashes and droplets fly above the wavy lines of the sea. Overhead you'll spot three puffy clouds and a bright sun with long rays. Small hands will like the roomy spaces on the tail fin, the dolphin and the clouds, while the scales and hair keep older kids busy. A soft blue-gray dolphin with a sparkly purple or teal tail makes the two easy to tell apart. Use this free printable for a quiet afternoon or a sea-themed lesson. Looking for more? A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the dolphin: color its body, flipper, lower body and the water splashes in sky blue, leaving the eye shine white.
- 2Fill the mermaid's tail with turquoise, mint green and emerald green, alternating shades to make the fin and scales stand out.
- 3Color the long flowing hair in coral red, and use peach skin for the face, chest and arms, keeping the shell top and waistband white.
- 4Paint the sun golden yellow and the three clouds pale blue, leaving the background white.
- 5Add the coral pink tongue on the dolphin's open mouth and the aqua teal scales along the mermaid's tail.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the lower dolphin body and tail scales to give them more depth.
