Sleepy Mermaid Curled Up in a Clam Shell
Coloring guide
Tucked inside a big open clam shell, a little mermaid takes a nap with her cheek on her folded hands and her eyes gently closed in a small smile. Long wavy hair flows around her shoulders with a starfish tucked in, and she wears a small shell top. Her scaly tail curls up so its wide, ribbed fin rests over the edge of the shell. Beside her sits a large round pearl, and a few bubbles of different sizes float above the scalloped shell behind her. Big shapes and clean lines are comfortable for younger kids, and older ones can add detail to the scales. Soft lilac or teal for the tail and pale pink inside the shell will let the pearl stand out. The calm scene also makes a nice bedtime activity as a free printable. This fits right in with our Mermaid coloring pages — see also Unicorns and Dragons.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Color the face, arms, hand, shoulders and belly with peach skin, leaving the closed eyes as simple lines.
- 2Fill the long hair and the shell's back fans in coral red for the hair and alternate pink and lavender purple for the big shell scallops.
- 3Color the mermaid's scaly tail in teal and its fins in aqua mint, working from the top of the tail down to the tip.
- 4Color the starfish hair clip golden yellow and the bubbles sky blue, keeping the pearl white with its shine.
- 5Fill the lower shell and inner ledge with light pink and lavender purple so the shell looks layered.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of the same color along the scales and shell edges to give depth.
