Pencil and Five Crayon Pals for Back to School

Right in the middle of the page, a big grinning pencil tilts to one side. It has a rounded eraser and a ridged metal band at the top and a sharpened tip at the bottom. Five little crayons gather around it, each with a happy face, rosy cheeks and an oval label on the wrapper. Two crayons sit on the left, three on the right, and one is tucked near the bottom corner. They all have the same sweet, wide-eyed look. Bold lines and large, simple shapes make this free printable a nice match for preschoolers and early elementary kids still working on pencil control. Give every crayon its own rainbow color and match each label to its wrapper, then try a classic yellow pencil with a pink eraser. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the big pencil body and its lower part with golden yellow, and color the wood tip pale tan. Leave the eye whites and the little shine spot white.
- 2Color the pencil eraser and the smile bubblegum pink, and fill the metal bands near the eraser with light gray.
- 3Color the body of the top left crayon sky blue, the left green crayon lime green, the right orange crayon warm orange, the bottom purple crayon orchid purple, and the small red crayon coral red.
- 4Color the bands on the top left crayon royal blue, the bands on the left green crayon leaf green, the bands on the right orange crayon tangerine, the bands on the bottom purple crayon deep purple, and the bands on the small red crayon bright red.
- 5Color the crayon tips pale tan and the pencil point charcoal gray, then leave the oval label areas on each crayon white. Optional: add a little darker shading along one side of each body for extra depth.
