A grinning, bearded pirate looks straight at you while a curious parrot sits on his shoulder, a friendly pair that kids tend to enjoy. He has a big tricorn hat with a skull and crossbones, a knotted bandana underneath and a small earring. His thick mustache and fluffy beard leave plenty of room for texture. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the face, ears and neck in peach skin, leaving the eye whites and teeth white.
- 2Fill the big areas next: the jacket in navy blue, the hat in charcoal black, and the beard and hair in warm brown.
- 3Color the headband, bandana, parrot belly and the red stripes on the shirt in bright red, leaving the cream stripes between them.
- 4Paint the parrot's wings and tail in royal blue, its beak and claws in golden yellow, and the clouds in light sky blue, with the sea in ocean blue.
- 5Add the finer details: the belt in dark brown with a golden yellow buckle, the gold trim on the hat and jacket lapels, and the railing in warm brown. Keep the skull and crossbones white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading along the jacket folds and under the hat brim to give the drawing more depth.
