Princess Carving a Pumpkin for Halloween

Coloring guide
A smiling girl wearing a small crown and a puff-sleeved dress leans over a big carved jack-o'-lantern. She's scooping out seeds with a spoon and steadying the pumpkin with her other hand. Her long braid is tied with a band, and a round brooch sits at the center of her bodice. The pumpkin has a happy face with curved eyes, a triangle nose and a wide toothy grin. She's sitting in a wooden chair at a plank table, with seeds scattered in front of her, two small pumpkins on either side and several fallen maple leaves. A puffy bush peeks out behind her at the upper left. Little hands will do well with the big shapes of the pumpkin and dress, and older kids can take on the leaves and planks. Warm orange and golden yellow look great on the pumpkins, and her dress could be soft lavender or sky blue. Grab the free PDF for a classroom project or a weekend craft. A gentle color plan to get started — mix in your own anytime.
- pumpkin orange
- peach skin
- warm tan
- chestnut brown
- grass green
- golden yellow
- royal purple
- soft lilac
- light gray
- brick red
A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big pumpkin in pumpkin orange, then fill the small pumpkins on the table and the pumpkin on the right in the same color.
- 2Color the princess face and hands in peach skin, leaving the eye whites and the little shine spots white.
- 3Use grass green for the bushes behind the chair and the greenery on the right, and warm tan for the wooden chair and table.
- 4Fill the hair in chestnut brown, leaving a few light strands white, and color the braid the same way.
- 5Add royal purple to the dress and soft lilac to the puffy sleeves, then color the crown, the gold trim at the neckline, and the carved smile and eyes in golden yellow.
- 6Finish with the leaves: brick red for the small leaf on the left and golden yellow for the others, then color the spoon light gray. Optional: add a little shading on the pumpkin with a darker orange.
