Shipwreck Scene With a Gliding Shark

Coloring guide
Above an old sunken ship glides a friendly, grinning shark, and its big round eye and toothy smile make it look more playful than scary. The wooden wreck has a tall broken mast with a crossbeam, tattered hanging sails, coiled rope, a round porthole and a square window. There's also a jagged hole in the hull where two little fish peek out. Seaweed drifts from the deck and the sea floor, and a school of small fish swims near rising bubbles. Down along the bottom are coral, a scallop shell, a starfish and rocky mounds. Older kids can shade all the wood grain, while the shark's smooth body suits smaller hands. Soft blue-gray on the shark, warm browns on the weathered planks and bright greens on the seaweed would be lovely. Pick up the free printable PDF and add it to your pile. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big shark body and fins in ocean blue, leaving the eye, teeth and the small white highlight on its face uncolored.
- 2Fill the water-facing background areas and the empty sky in light sky blue, keeping the open water near the bubbles white.
- 3Color the shipwreck hull planks and mast in wood brown, then add dark brown to the window and caramel to the rim and tan edges.
- 4Paint the porthole glass light sky blue and the rim golden yellow, leaving a small white shine on the glass.
- 5Use slate gray for the rocks on both sides and pale sand for the seabed, then add leaf green to the seaweed.
- 6Optional: Add deep navy to the dark hole in the hull and bright orange to the small fish and coral for a final pop of color.
