Smiling Squirrel Hugging a Mushroom Among Fall Leaves

A cheerful squirrel sits beside a big mushroom and holds the cap with its front paws, grinning with two buck teeth showing. Its ears stand up, one eye looks off to the side, and the large fluffy tail curls up behind it with jagged, furry edges. Around the squirrel are several different leaves: a spiky maple leaf, a smaller star-shaped leaf, a long branch with narrow leaflets, an oak-style leaf, a heart-shaped leaf, and a couple of small rounded ones. A few tufts of grass peek out at the base of the mushroom. The outlines are bold and the shapes are large, so the page works well for kids who are still building pencil control. Try using a different autumn color for each leaf, then pick soft browns and oranges for the squirrel and its tail. You could also ask kids to compare the leaf shapes and sort them by type. It is a free printable that fits a fall classroom or a rainy afternoon at home.
