Chugging Along a Curved Track, Big-Eyed Steam Train

This steam locomotive has a big round face, wide sparkly eyes, a little round nose and an open smile, and it chugs toward you along a curving railway track. Two small passenger cars with square windows come along behind. Look for the tall chimney, a front grille with vertical slats, a large side wheel with a connecting rod, and a round lamp on each side of the face. Two rolling hills rise behind the track, topped with puffy clouds, and grass tufts and a rounded bush sit up front. Bold, thick outlines and large open spaces make it easy for little hands to stay inside the lines. A bright red face with a sunny yellow chimney, and two shades of green for the hills, would be a fun combination. Print it at home for a quick coloring break. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the big rolling hill in the background with grass green, then color both bushes forest green.
- 2Color the boiler, cab, chimney and the two back carriages: bright blue for the engine, orange for the middle carriage, and bright yellow for the first carriage.
- 3Paint the cab roof, carriage roofs, the big face ring and the front skirt red, and give the top of the chimney a golden yellow cap.
- 4Fill the round face and nose with silver gray, the cab arch window with light gray, and the cab and carriage windows with light blue or pale blue. Leave the eye whites white.
- 5Use dark gray for the wheels and lower chassis, silver gray for the wheel rims and rails, brown for the track sleeper planks, and bright yellow for the front stripes and headlights.
- 6Optional: Finish with pink inside the smile and maroon along the mouth edge, then add a little shading on the boiler and wheels for depth.
