Smiling Submarine and Little Jellyfish, an Octonauts-Style Scene

A cheerful little submarine glides through the water beside a small smiling jellyfish. The sub's big round porthole is really its face, with wide sparkly eyes and an open happy mouth. It also has two oval side windows, a periscope curling up from the top, a spinning propeller at the back and a small fin underneath. Four round bubbles drift up behind it. Just below, the jellyfish grins with a dome-shaped head, big eyes and six wavy tentacles hanging down. Everything is drawn large with bold lines, which is great for preschoolers and early elementary kids still working on pencil control. Bright yellow makes a good submarine, the jellyfish could be soft purple or pink, and light blue fits the bubbles. It's a free page for a calm ocean-themed activity at home or school. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big yellow hull: color the long rounded submarine body in golden yellow, including the front section and the lower curve of the body.
- 2Fill the round porthole frame and the bottom fin with bright blue, and color the back of the propeller in bright blue too.
- 3Color the conning tower and both propeller blades in bright red, then add the orange band across the top of the tower and the small orange propeller hub.
- 4Paint the big porthole face and the bubbles in pale blue and sky blue, leaving the two eye whites and the cute smile’s highlights white for a sparkly look.
- 5Color the jellyfish head in lavender purple, then fill its tentacles and little mouth with soft pink.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shade along the bottom of the submarine and the jellyfish head for depth, then finish with the periscope rim in golden yellow and the periscope lens in light sky blue.
