Young Engineer Waving From the Cab of a Steam Locomotive Train

Coloring guide
Leaning out of the cab window, a young engineer in a peaked cap waves with one hand and grins with his mouth wide open. He wears a collared shirt and overalls, and his cap has a round badge on the front. The locomotive is drawn at a three-quarter angle with a big round front covered in rivets and a small crosshair-style circle at the center. A tall funnel-shaped smokestack sits on top, while a cowcatcher grille, two round headlamps and a central coupling run along the bottom. You can also see spoked wheels and a connecting rod on the side. Since there's no background, the page stays clean and easy for little hands. Red works well for the engine body, deep blue for the cap and overalls, and gray or silver for the round boiler front. Print this free page to add to your collection. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the big front boiler, the main body, the back section and the smokestack with royal blue, leaving the small highlight areas for later.
- 2Color the cab sides, the bottom front wedge and the red cab panels with cherry red.
- 3Use golden yellow for the big front dial rim, the rivet dots, the headlamps, the cap badge and the cab trim.
- 4Color the wheels and couplers with light gray, add dark gray to the wheel hubs and the cap brim, then use navy blue for the shirt collar and overalls.
- 5Paint the boy's face and raised hand with peach skin, his hair with chocolate brown, his sleeve with sky blue, and the cab windows with forest green. Fill the center of the front gauge with pale blue and keep the background white.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker shading on the boiler edges and under the wheels with a deeper tone of the same color for more depth.
