Snail Ride with a Little Troll and Leaf Flag
Coloring guide
Up on a big spiral snail shell sits a little troll with spiky, tousled hair and pointy ears, waving a leaf on a stick like a flag. His fuzzy, leafy outfit is tied at the waist, and he's grinning with his mouth wide open. Down below, the smiling snail has long antennae, big shiny eyes and its tongue sticking out as it slides over a pebbly path. Tall grass frames both sides of the page, and spotted mushrooms sit at the left and right edges. The large shell spiral and wide grass blades are simple for small hands, so preschoolers and early elementary kids can both enjoy this free printable. Rainbow stripes swirling around the shell would look great, along with a bright green leaf flag and red mushroom caps. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the snail body and eye stalks in golden yellow, leaving the big round eyes and their white shine spots empty.
- 2Fill the big snail shell with caramel brown, then add dark brown on the shell's sides and top to show depth.
- 3Color the troll's skin in peach, including face, ears, arms, and legs, and leave the teeth and eye whites white.
- 4Add leaf green to the troll's tunic and leaves, light green to the grass blades, and tomato red to the mushroom caps.
- 5Use pale tan for the mushroom stems and leave the white spots on the caps empty; color the stones gray and the path tan brown.
- 6Optional: Add a little darker green or brown shading along the edges of the grass and shell to make the drawing pop.
