Waving Worm Peeking Out of an Apple

Coloring guide
A cheerful little worm pops out of a large apple and waves hello with one tiny hand, grinning with an open mouth and wide, sparkling eyes. His striped, segmented body curls out of a wavy-edged hole on the right side of the fruit. On top there's a thick stem and a single leaf with a center vein and branching lines. Outlines are bold and the shapes big and simple, so this free printable is a good match for preschoolers and early elementary kids still learning to stay inside the lines. The empty space on the apple gives a first-time colorist lots of room. Lime green works for the worm, soft pink for his tongue and cheeks, then classic red for the apple and leafy green for the leaf. Try it for a fruit unit, a garden afternoon or a rainy day. This page is part of our Apple coloring pages collection — check out For Girls and For Kids too.

A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start by coloring the big apple body and the red area beside the waving arm with bright red, using gentle back-and-forth strokes.
- 2Fill the leaf with leaf green and the stem with warm brown, keeping the stem's top a little darker.
- 3Color the worm's head, waving arm and main body segments with pale lime, then fill the middle stripes with leaf green.
- 4Use dark maroon for the humps behind the worm's body, and add soft pink to the open mouth and tongue.
- 5Leave the eye whites and the small highlight near the apple top white so the eyes and shine stand out.
- 6Optional: add a few darker strokes of bright red or dark maroon along one side of the apple and worm to give them a little shadow.
