Spotted Snake Hanging from a Leafy Branch

Wrapped around a thick tree branch, this friendly cartoon snake lets its head dangle down with wide eyes, a happy smile and a little forked tongue out. Its big round-spotted body loops over the branch and the tail curls down on the left. Large veined leaves fill the corners and sprout from the branch, and there's a small bushy shape and a tiny plant along the bottom edge. Bold outlines and roomy spots keep it easy for preschoolers and early elementary kids, and older children can add shading to the leaves. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the snake's body, including the head, all the coils and the tail, filling it in with grass green and leaving the eye whites and the spots empty.
- 2Color the leaves at the top left, the top, the right side and the bottom with grass green, adding a dark olive touch along the edge of the lower right leaf.
- 3Fill the two tree branches with warm brown, keeping the space between the branches and the leaves white.
- 4Fill the spots on the snake with golden yellow, and color the band along the snake's middle and the stripe near the tail with pale yellow.
- 5Color the forked tongue coral pink and the tail tip golden yellow, leaving the eye whites and the small highlights white.
- 6Optional: Add a few darker strokes of grass green along the edges of the snake's coils to make them look rounder.
