Up on a grassy hill, a big-eyed kitten with tall pointed ears and a little curl of fur on its forehead looks through a telescope on a tripod, grinning with its mouth wide open. Behind it you'll see a camping tent, a lantern and a rolled-up bundle next to the tent. Flowers, rocks and pine trees fill the front of the scene, while a lake and mountains stretch out far behind. The sky above is crowded with sparkly stars, ringed planets, a striped planet and a smiling cratered moon. There are lots of tiny spots for crayons and some large shapes that little hands can handle. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the big background: fill the night sky at the top and the sky behind the tent and mountains in navy blue, then color the lake in bright blue.
- 2Color the grass, bushes and trees at the bottom and sides using grass green, pine green, leaf green and forest green, and fill the distant mountains in royal blue and cornflower blue.
- 3Paint the kitten: tangerine orange for the body, tail, legs, ears and head curl, pale butter yellow for the face and inner fur, and coral pink inside the ears. Leave the eye shines white.
- 4Add the tent in sunny yellow and burnt orange, the rolled blanket in green, the lantern in red with a golden yellow glow, and the telescope in light gray with a light sky blue lens and slate gray tripod.
- 5Finish the planets and sky details: amber for the orange planet, turquoise for the teal planet, violet for the purple ringed planet, lilac for the purple moon, and sunny yellow for the stars and moon spots.
- 6Optional: add a slightly darker shade along the tent folds and the kitten's shadow areas for a bit of depth.
