Sunshine and Rainbow Mandala with Clouds and Raindrops

This symmetrical mandala puts a happy sun in the center, with a round smiling face, sparkly eyes and pointed rays. Five fluffy clouds make a ring around it, and wide curved rainbow stripes fan out behind the clouds so the whole thing looks like a flower. Small stars and teardrop-shaped raindrops sit along the outer edge in a balanced pattern. The wide rainbow bands are easy to color, and the stars, drops and sun rays let kids practice smaller spaces. A warm yellow and orange sun is a good start, then a different color for each rainbow arc and soft light blue on the clouds and raindrops. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Start with the sky: fill the background areas around the sun and between the rainbow arcs with sky blue, leaving the clouds white.
- 2Color the sun's face and the sun's rays: fill the round face with sunny yellow and the pointed rays with tangerine orange, leaving the cheeks and eyes as you like.
- 3Color the rainbow arcs from the outside in: use cherry red for the outer bands, sunny yellow for the next band, leaf green and bright blue for the inner bands, and soft gray for the top arc.
- 4Fill the raindrops with bright blue and the stars with sunny yellow.
- 5Keep the clouds white so they stand out against the blue sky.
- 6Optional: Add light strokes of a darker shade over the rainbow and sun to give them a sketchy, textured look.
