A big blocky Ghast hangs in the middle of the page, drawn as a large cube with a round open mouth and two squared-off eyes that make it look startled. Small rectangles and short dashes cover the front and side faces, so there are lots of tiny shapes to fill. Nine long rectangular tentacles dangle beneath the cube at different lengths. Nothing is behind it, so your child gets to pick the whole setting. Pale gray or soft white suits the body, and bright red or orange makes the mouth and eyes pop. A suggested order, zone by zone — skip around as you like.
- 1Fill the large front and right faces of the cube with pale gray, leaving the background white.
- 2Color all the tentacles and the underside of the cube with silver gray.
- 3Add medium gray to the darker sides and bottoms of the tentacles to show depth.
- 4Color the mouth and both eyes bright red, keeping the eye outlines in mind.
- 5Fill the small square spots and stripes on the cube faces with dark slate gray.
- 6Optional: Add a few extra strokes of dark slate gray in the shadow areas under the cube for more depth.
